The Value of Hosting Mega Sports Events as a Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainable Development Tool

On February 16, 2016, NABU has participated in the United Nations high-level event entitled “The Value of Hosting Mega Sports Events as a Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainable Development Tool”. The event highlighted and discussed the challenges and opportunities related to the creation of sustainable social and economic legacies around and through hosting mega sports events. With opening remarks by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the session continued with speeches and interactive panel discussions. Cafu, the two-time World Cup Champion, and founder of Cafu Foundation; and Mr. Dikembe Mutombo, NBA legend, Chairmain and President of Dikembe Mutombo Foundation were some of keynote speakers. It highlighted the positive impact sports events have on empowerment of women, girls, people with disabilities and youth.
