“ISIS and the Impact on Women”

On October 6, 2015, the UN Women for Peace Association hosted an event at the UN Headquarters themed ISIS and its Impact on Women dedicated to raising awareness of predicaments women face on territories occupied by ISIS. Some of the issues discussed included: sexual slavery, rape, subjugation, violence as well as other types of injustice women are experiencing.
Khidher Domle shared his successes in rescuing female victims from ISIS. He also stressed the fact that there are still thousands of them suffering on the ISIS occupied territories. Moreover, he accentuated that many of the rescued women have serious difficulties with readjusting to society due to trauma they experienced. These victims need strong psychosocial and emotional support.
Last, but not least, a representative of the UK mission to the UN, stated that the United Kingdom has filed a petition to the International Criminal Court requesting acknowledgment that ISIS has been committing genocide against the Yazidi people.
